Our client, a national leader in title and escrow services, is seeking experienced Senior Underwriting Counsels to join its Agency Division in Stamford, Connecticut. These hybrid roles offers the opportunity to serve as a trusted legal advisor on complex commercial real estate title insurance matters, providing underwriting guidance, risk analysis, and transactional support to internal teams, agents, and customers.
The positions are ideal for a seasoned attorney who brings deep knowledge of real estate law, title underwriting, and regulatory compliance, along with a collaborative and solutions‑oriented mindset. The successful candidates will bring strong judgment, customer-centric communication skills, and the ability to manage a diverse pipeline of commercial transactions while applying underwriting standards and company guidelines.
Candidate Profile
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school required.
- Active Bar Admission in Connecticut, in good standing.
- 5+ years of substantive experience in title insurance underwriting or comparable commercial real estate experience in a law firm setting.
- General understanding of the process of underwriting real estate transactions for the issuance of title insurance policies.
- Ability to interpret and apply underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits
- Solid understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of NH real estate transactions, title and settlement processes.
- Must be familiar with applicable real estate law, including federal and state regulations.
- Strong relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders and externally, with clients and others.
- Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage significant transaction volume, ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow up in a timely manner.
- Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Effective communicator with strong negotiation skills, who can deliver guidance with clarity, professionalism, tact, and diplomacy.
- Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, with the ability to assess risk and provide practical solutions.
- Collaborative mindset with ability to act decisively when needed.
- Creative, solution-oriented approach to resolving complex title challenges.
- Ability to work hybrid 4 days a week office, initially.
What You’ll Do
- Provide underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel, agents, and customers, related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies.
- Utilize underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits to underwrite the issuance of title insurance.
- Provide guidance to company personnel in the performance of real estate settlement services.
- Issue underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processes.
- Prepare and present educational content (in-person and/or remote) for the benefit of company personnel, agents and/or customers.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Salary range: $130,000 – $215,000+ This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements, qualifications, and geographic location.
